NIGHT 2 ✦ JUL 24 - JUL 27
EVENT: Illusions of the ImportantThings to Keep in Mind:
Think of the person that elicits the most emotions from you. A lover, a family member, maybe even an archenemy? All through the night, you'll see that person. Nobody else seems to be able to, though... but they're real. In fact, you're going to prove it. You can chase all you want, though, but you'll never catch them.
✦ Please mark any threads that may contain anything that could be triggery or graphic!
✦ Keep all Night related threads to this post! For consistency sake, please do not create your own Night post.
✦ Whatever item your character is holding in their hands (not in their pockets, in a bag, etc. must be physically in their hands) will stay with them into the day. This is not in-game knowledge and will be something they will have to discover on their own. Once these items have seen the light of day, they are yours to keep and will not disappear (unless broken/eaten/expired, etc.)
✦ The natives are of little help. You may use NPCs in your threads, however remember that they won't give much information. NPCs can remember faces (if your character frequents a restaurant every night, the manager may begin greeting them by name) however they will not remember events (big bad monsters were chasing you last night? Are you high?) For the most part, conversations will be very neutral. The usual, "hello there, how are you doing today? Back again?" type stuff.
✦ Language barriers do exist during the night. That means every character reverts back to their native language and unless they speak the same language, characters will not be able to understand each other. (Strangely enough, they will be able to understand NPCs. Just don't try to get them to translate for you, because all you'll get are strange looks.)
✦ Unless otherwise stated in the event above, the city has come alive again and the ruins have disappeared. This means that the city is now entirely functional. Feel free to take the subway, go visit the zoo, play in the park, etc.
✦ Abilities/powers have now returned. Powers start out incredibly weak and grow a little stronger with each consecutive night the character spends here. Use your own discretion.
✦ Nights will function similar to dreams to the characters. It is up to the player how much of this "dream" that their character remembers. It is entirely possible to have no recollection of the previous night, or to remember everything in great detail. All we ask is that you remain consistent with your choices. (So if you've chosen for the character to forget certain aspects of the night, don't have them suddenly bring those events up in another thread.)

They could be like Apollo and taunt her up close, in person. She won't allow them the opportunity so she denies them of the right simply by denying herself any human contact.
It doesn't work out so well for her. The natives here comment on her radiant beauty at night and why wouldn't they? Praise and worship comes commonly enough to a god. Here she is anything but. It has earned her ire enough to start shouting at them--but could anyone nearby recognize the ancient language? ]

She stands a few feet away, and observes. It doesn't seem to be much more than just yelling right now, but should anything explode, she's ready to jump in and put out any fires.
For now, though, she's just trying to decipher what exactly is going on. ]
no subject
She sticks to the darker alleys. They're quieter, less bright, and much less overwhelming. As she rounds a corner, she spots a familiar figure. No, it couldn't be... ]
Merlin...
[ He turns at the sound of his voice. She can't quite read his expression. Sorrow? Guilt? ... though she's almost certain she spots a hint of satisfaction.
He turns to walk away. Almost as if she didn't matter. Like he'd seen right through her. Something inside of Morgana burst. A rage that had been sitting there for quite some time now. She quickens her steps toward him. He breaks into a slow jog, and she follows suit. ]
Stop!
[ She'd trusted him. He was the only one who knew. She'd thought he understood...
Suddenly, she's surrounded by noises again. He slips through a small crowd of people and disappears. Desperate, and angry, she shoves past strangers, eyes scanning the crowd for his face. ]

Especially when he starts seeing it. First it's a second version of himself, dark cold eyes that laugh at him.
No. He's gone. Scott defeated him-- but then he hears the voice and he can see him in the corner of his eyes, all bandaged up with those teeth. It runs a chill up his spine and reminds him too much of Eichen.
He doesn't want to think of Eichen.
But then there he is again. He calls to Stiles, reminds him of Allison's death.
You did that.
He has to shake his head, push away. It's not real. He can't be here, too. It's not real. It's an allusion. The nogitsune is an illusion. He's pushing himself away, mentally and physically from one of the businesses. It's clear be hasn't slept much, and he's barely holding it together.
But then he hears the girl call out. It's the same thing he's been yelling at the nogitsune. Though he has to stop and pause, even in his delirium...]
Merlin? Like the wizard?
no subject
Merlin. You've seen him?
[ Please, she needs to find him. She needs him to explain... ]
no subject
[Is that who he should be looking for?
God, he's losing his mind. Where's Scott when he needs him?]
no subject
Blinks in confusion.
Is this another language altogether? Because she has no idea what he's talking about. ]

[ She thinks that's the right answer. ... Though she's not quite sure she's understood the question entirely.
She takes a quick look around them. The crowd is slowly beginning to thin out, and Merlin is nowhere in sight. Still, it isn't as though he can hide. Once day comes, if the pattern holds true, this entire area will be a wasteland.
This may be a good time to actually pay attention to the kid that distracted her from her chase. He's dressed strangely, though he does seem to fit in more than she does in those clothes. And he's... bobbing his head up and down in nodding motions, though she's not quite sure why. All in all, just a little bit weird. ]
no subject
So are you... Gw..eneviere?? [That's right, right? If Merlin is a wizard. The girl is Gweneviere.
God, this is weird.]
no subject
You know Gwen?!
[ Wait, no. If he's asking if she is Gwen, then he must not know her. But he knows of her, and that's a good sign, isn't it? Gwen. Sweet Gwen. Her servant. Her friend.
Though Merlin had been a friend, too...
She pushes those thoughts from her head. First, find Gwen. And Merlin. And then she'll... she'll... figure out the rest from there. ]
no subject
So you're looking for them then? I'd help, but I think I'm mostly useless. [Which really sucks, because he likes to do things. Standing back and letting things happen has just led to more deaths back home. And he doesn't have a banshee here to tell him what the nogitsune is up to.
But maybe he shouldn't be helping anyone anyway. Given Allison... He takes a heavy breath.]
I'm Stiles. By the way.
no subject
Well met, Stiles. [ Stiles... a strange name. Though he's a strange boy. ] I am Morgana.
no subject
This is another strange question coming from me, but... you haven't seen someone looking like me running around? Causing amok?
no subject
N...o.... [ An embarrassed look creeps onto her face. ] Though, I can't say I've been paying much attention.
no subject
I'm just trying to keep tabs on what's happening. [The fact there hasn't been a large explosion somewhere, people being killed, chaos everywhere, it makes him think.]

Luckily there's food at night - nothing in the daytime, no matter how hard he searches. This place is little like the world he knows, so finding anything he can recognize as edible is a struggle. Luckily there's no need to steal, since there's apparently no monetary system that he can determine, but he still tries to be as inconspicuous as possible.
He's choking down what seemed to be some sort of protein, hidden down an alleyway, when he happens to glance toward the street just in time to see two figures that stand out in their overwhelming familiarity.
No. No, it couldn't be.
The remnants of his meal are discarded without another thought in the gutter as he races out into the bright, artificial lights. They'd been right here.
"Oi! Farlan! Isabel!"
There- a glance, a pair of familiar voices, just turning the corner and out of his sight.
Levi shoves his way past the people on the street - useless, most of them, and strange. He'd discovered he could learn nothing from them the night before, so he tears off after the people he hopes are there, a hard twist aching in his chest.
His reflexes are good, but there's still a chance he may just barely miss colliding with someone.
((ooc: if your character speaks high German, they might be able to pick out a word or two, but otherwise only canonmates are going to fully understand one another. thanks!))

How could so many people just materialize? It's unsettling, and she's nowhere closer to finding an answer.
One thing's for sure, however, it's much easier to travel the city during the night time. And so Black Canary had made it her priority to scope out as much as she can each night, get to know the townspeople, and see if she can track down any clues. She'd just walked out of a giant shopping center when someone comes barreling into her.
"Hey!"
Thankfully, her reflexes are fast, and she reaches out to catch him before they both fall over.
"Hey..." Her voice softened as she caught the expression on his face. "Are you alright?"
no subject
He skids to a halt, staring at her almost wildly. Unlike the other people he'd encountered and attempted to communicate with, she appears to actually have a direct interest in him.
He also can't understand a damn thing that came out of her mouth.
It's bizarre, really. Erwin had told him once that the people of the world had had many diverse cultures and languages before humanity had been devastated by the titans and forced to live inside a now ever diminishing territory. It's stranger still to actually encounter another human being that he couldn't understand because the sounds coming from their lips have no meaning to him whatsoever.
"If you can actually say something I can understand say it, otherwise I have people I'm looking for."
Levi casts about for any other sign of Farlan and Isabelle - nothing, but he feels edgy, like if he could just peer around the corner they'd be there.
no subject
"Levi," he says when his windpipe has recovered enough from its brief run-in with Levi's forehead. He's glad that he's here, glad to see that he's solid, that he won't drift away if Erwin looks at him for long enough--like another specter haunting the edges of his vision tonight, one he knows shouldn't exist. He'd heard Levi's voice before he'd seen him, unmistakable and raised, calling out names he hasn't uttered in years. Perhaps Levi is seeing ghosts, too.
He doesn't need to say just how much of a relief it is to find Levi in this strange and foreign place. And yet it isn't a surprising that he should be here. Levi has followed him without fail these last six years; why should that change now?
"Are you all right?"
He still has a hand clasped firmly around Levi's arm, and his brows have furrowed with concern.
no subject
Two hands fist into whatever clothing is just beneath them as he shoves the offender away harshly, about to give them several choice words until he sees who it is. A strange mix of relief and anxiety sweeps through him, but he doesn't let go of Erwin just yet.
"Aside from your chin cracking the top of my skull, yeah."
Levi can't help casting a wary look around then, straining to glimpse either ghost out the corner of his eye.
"It's my second night here. It feels like a creepy dream, only from what I can tell it's actually real."
Eyes return to Erwin's, look over him critically and that's when he notices - it's Erwin's right hand gripping him. He blinks, and then finds his gaze again.
"What about you?"
no subject
Now it's dark, and the lights of the city have come up, another instance of 'I blinked and everything changed' except now the city seems alive. ]
Okay, self, let's hurry up and get to the point.
[ He mumbles it to himself, still thinking the world is in his head -- the way others appear from nowhere, not acknowledging him or how strange it all is -- and it's starting to get creepy.
And then he catches a flash of something familiar; a worn leather jacket and tousled brown hair rounding a corner ahead. ]
Peter? Peter!
[ Maybe he wasn't alone? Roman takes off at a hopeful sprint after the figure of his friend. ]
no subject
It's weird though. People calling after one another like they see them-- have more people been brought or is this illusion of the nogitsune not just an illusion of itself but of this place?]
Did you see him? This Peter person? Touch him?
[It's a strange thing to ask a stranger, but at this point he really doesn't care. He's been living in Strangeville the last day, and so long as this guy actually speaks English, well... that's a plus.]
no subject
And then someone else is speaking to him. It's the first person that's addressed him since he wound up in this place. ]
What? No.
[ Shit, where did he go? Roman moves forward again, but slower in his aimlessness. He's not sure which way to turn, after all. ]
no subject
It's occurring to me that this place has the capability of messing with our heads.
[Which is great, because he already a nogitsune running amok in there. He doesn't need some magic city that turns itself on and off doing the same.]
no subject
[ Since they were in his head that just seemed obvious.
Wait a minute.
Roman leans down towards the stranger, scrutinizing him. Someone from school? The country club? He wracks his brain and comes up with nothing, not the faintest spark of recognition. ]
I don't know you.
[ That couldn't be right. That's not how it was supposed to go. He couldn't just invent people, not even in a dream.
Unless it wasn't...
And then Roman reaches out and pokes the stranger in the shoulder, very firmly. Are you really there, guy?]
no subject
You new?
no subject
No. No, because this is not-- it's not happening. It's not real. [ He presses a hand to his forehead, hunching over in an attempt to not hyperventilate as reality sets in. ] How did I get here? Fuck.
[ And then he's pinching himself and cursing again, patting his pockets in search of his phone, his cigarettes, his coke, anything, because if he was magically teleported somewhere they could at leave have the decency to let him keep what he had on him, right? ]
no subject
I wish I could say I have answers, but I don't. This is only my second day here. Wherever here is. I can tell you night is whole other deal, and from the looks of it? Whoever took us is playing with our heads. Or mine. [But he thinks, he hopes this isn't the Nogitsune. He can't do that again.]
no subject
Playing with our heads how?
no subject
Hallucinations. Are you sure you saw who you think you saw? A girl here was looking for... [Merlin. Yeah, not mentioning that.] A friend. But I never saw him. And I keep--
[Stiles, a voice draws in his head. His head snaps up for a second. This is what he means. But he can't just tell a complete stranger that he's hearing a trickster fox spirit. So he licks his lips and puts out his hand to explain.]
Someone I know is here. But he can't be. He's... gone in my world. But this is what he does. [Stiles, it repeats low in his head again. Let me in. You know how much fun we had last time. In his mind's eye he can see the bloodied teeth through the aged bandages, the Go table set up. No. This is a hallucination.]
Trust me. I know what he's capable of and this place-- it can't be him. It has to be this place.
[Because he's not going there. No one else is getting hurt again. Not because the nogitsune. But the more he tries to reason, the more he can hear the call of the trickster spirit. He takes his eyes off of the taller kid once, and he nearly swears he sees bandages rush around the corner behind Roman. He snaps back to attention. For the most part, he hasn't outwardly freaked out, not more than this situation as two teens stuck in a mind fucking world would anyway. He has to keep his cools.
They're only hallucinations.]
no subject
He'll wake up any second now. Right?
The guy's eyes drift to the side and he sees something, Roman's sure of it. Even as his new acquaintance's gaze snaps back, Roman turns around, looking where he thinks the other might have been. There's nothing there.
Something occurs to him; Even lost in his own head, even if they didn't answer, the figures motioned for him to follow. ]
Whoever you're seeing... would they run away from you?
no subject
He'd be-- more direct.
lol canon point
So they're not real. Shee-it. What is real?
no subject
I think we are. The people here are-- varied, and I've talked to a few. But day and night changes, so I can't tell you much more with certainty.
wheeee, Roman! <3
I didn't see anyone else.
i know you!!! from asgard! hi!
He would have went right past you. This tall, leather jacket, doesn't own a comb?
ohh hi! who did you play there?
I'm pretty sure you're the only one around here.
{Because she sure as hell doesn't want to admit her own brother is following her.]
claudia and gaia were roomies :)
[ He'll figure it out. Roman takes a deep breath and manages a tiny smile for the woman, whose fault it probably isn't. Probably. ]
Don't suppose you've got a smoke?
OMG yes! \o/ btw, sorry for the delay
[Well, Margot's hardly one to start calling people 'crazy' or anything. Especially in this world, where everything's so weird she would lock herself up in an asylum if she heard herself talking about it.]
No, sorry, not a smoker. I could use a drink though.
Re: OMG yes! \o/ btw, sorry for the delay
[ Roman glances around again, realizing that in his chasing after Peter he has no idea where he is... not that he knew where he was at nightfall, but at least he'd recognize it if he found his way back to that spot. As he ran he wasn't very aware of his surroundings. ]
Maybe there's a store around... somewhere.
no subject
[She looks around and nods.] There are stores in this place, during the night only. But I don't have any money, I'm looking for a job.
no subject
--wait. ]
You've been here more than one night? Where'd you sleep?
no subject
Anyway, once it was light again, everyone disappeared from the streets and shops.
OTA | TW: Possible mentions of abuse
Like the previous night, the city is once again filled with people and sounds, now making her sure she didn't dream it or imagine it. She starts to walk around hoping to find a drugstore. She wonders if they'll just give her the stuff she needs, since everything seems to be like regular businesses.
As she walks into the Inner Circle of the city, she suddenly gets the feeling that someone is following her. She picks up her pace, but the figure she sees out of the corner of her eye keeps pace with her. She walks into a narrow alleyway, watching the figure passing right by and realizing it's her brother, Mason. She holds onto her breath, hoping Mason won't find her.]
